"For All We Know" is a soft rock song written for the 1970 film Lovers and Other Strangers, with music by Fred Karlin and lyrics by Robb Wilson (Robb Royer) and Arthur James (Jimmy Griffin). Both Royer and Griffin were founding members of the soft rock group Bread.
It was originally performed, for the film's soundtrack, by Larry Meredith. The best known version of the song is by American pop duo the Carpenters which reached No. 3 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and No. 1 on the US Billboard Easy Listening chart in 1971.
The song was also a hit for Shirley Bassey at the same time in the United Kingdom. It has since been covered by various artists including Petula Clark.
The song became a gold record. It won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1971.
This arrangement slows down the tempo from the Carpenters' version and was used by Andy Williams for his rendition.
Sadly, Karen was only 9 months older than me. She was only 32 when she died of complications from anorexia.

While I know of the Carpenters, this is a new song for my hearing. Always a pleasure listening.

A very nice rendition of this Carpenter's song. I've done a few only because of the lower range she sang in which works nicely for a guy trying to cover. Really enjoyed my listen this evening Keith.

onefortheroad I know what you mean about Karen's voice, Brad. She was a contralto and it is a little easier to gender bend one of her songs. This was not the Carpenter's arrangement though. It was Andy Williams and was a bit of a stretch for these old pipes....lol Glad you enjoyed my take on this classic. Have a great night....:-)
