Carrickfergus, a town in Northern Ireland as well as the title of an Irish folk song, tells a heart-wrenching story of a lonesome rover's final wish. Outlived all his boyhood friends and those he loved, with nothing to live for, he found solace in drinks and his final wish to returning home and be buried in his homeland.
The lyric conjured up a sense of sadness and nostalgia and coupled with such a beautiful, soulful melody, the effect is quite magical.
