It was quiet around here in the old homestead yesterday, so I started going through my old box of 78's and this one jumped out at me. "The Old Lamplighter."
Back when I was 18, nothing like cellphones existed. The closest thing to wireless was a CB radio. Well, I got me one and put it in my first car and of course, if you had a CB, you had to have a Handle. My first handle was, yup, you guessed it "Lamplighter".
Being insightful of the future, I changed that Handle adopted in 1967 to, “Starlyter". It stuck ever since and is the namesake of my Karaoke Show.
Now back to the 78 record. Listened to that version (youtube) and as expected, sounded just like a 1946 recording on a scratchy record. Found another by The Browns and I just happened to have a single SC track. So, after updating the lyrics to my newer Handle, I came up with this. Breaker 19, anybody got a copy on Ole Starlyter? Come on……

Do you remember which orchestra/singer recorded the 1946 version? This is wonderfully done. Sammy Kay, Kay Kyser?

@qwirky Thanks Q. Well, 46 preceded me by 3 years so wasn't around then but according to Wiki, there were numerous versions in 46 and 47 including Sammy and Kay. The record I found was also in 46 was by Hal Derwin.

@aragorn Hi Paul. Now to answer your question, would take a feat of remembering why I pulled that name out of my have over 55 years ago. I don't have a clue. LOL. Thanks my friend.

@onefortheroad Telephones with long cords but not mobile. You had to be rich to afford mobile phone in those days and a big old box in the trunk. LOL Thank you Keith for stopping in for a listen..
