Co-written by Aaron Tippin with his wife Thea and Philip Douglas, this song finds him singing about a woman getting revenge on her cheating lover. It was the singer's third and final #1 on the Country chart.
The song was inspired by a fight between Tippin and his wife. "I had come off the road, and I was trying to tell her how to cook," he recalled at a media event. "I am a 'backseat cook.' She was whipping us up something to eat. I said, 'No, honey, not a smidge of this. Read the cookbook - it's right there; it said 'one tablespoon.' Boy, she went through the roof."
"I could tell this was going to escalate, so I backed off," Tippin continued. "I said, 'I don't want to fight. I just got home. I want to be nice. Tell you what: What do you say we kiss and make up?'"
Thea Tippin's response was, "You know what you can kiss?' Kiss this."
After cooling down the Tippins realized that their argument was a song idea, and according to Thea, after they turned the song in, her husband's record label, "begged us to get into more fights."
Melodie Crittenden, Kim Parent, and Joanna Janét sing backing vocals and Thea Tippin can be heard saying "See ya!" at the end.
"We were writing that song and honestly, we just thought it was a little hokey, funny little title,"
Tippin explained in a 2016 Songfacts interview. "We were virtually writing it to get it out of the way... So we just wrote the thing. But before we got into it, first a chorus and going, 'Oh, man, this could be good.' So we really wrote a cool little song around it, and I'm very proud of it."
In the Trey Fanjoy-directed video, a jilted bride gets drunk at a bar, where Tippin is a bartender, and confronts her cheating groom.
The song debuted at number 70 on the Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart dated May 27, 2000. It charted for 33 weeks on that chart, and reached number-one on the chart dated October 14, 2000, remaining at the top for two weeks, and becoming Tippin's third and final number-one single. It also peaked at number 42 on the Billboard Hot 100.
