The renown songwriting team of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil wrote this song, which was part of an album that also featured songs written by Stevie Wonder, Carole King, Jimmy Webb, Paul Williams and John Sebastian.
Thomas has said that this is his favorite track on the album; the song is about a boy whose young mother sings him a very special lullaby to comfort him.
Duane Eddy, famous for his twangy guitar sound and hit songs "Rebel Rouser," and "Because They're Young," played lead guitar on this song.
Thomas' producers decided a Duane Eddy sound would be perfect for this track, and they were able to get the real Duane Eddy to do it.
The female backup vocals were by the Blossoms, who stood in for The Crystals on three of their hits. Dave Somerville of The Diamonds also sang backup.

@bevb Thanks, Bev! This has been a long time fave of mine. I couldn't hit the falsetto like BJ did back in the day so, I had to change the vocals to fit the music. I was happy with the result, though. It blends with the music very well, I think. Appreciate ya.....:-)

@tlsteelman Hey, Tom! Thanks for your over-the-top response to my cover. This is what is so cool about karaoke sites like this one. People come from all different kinds of life experiences and memories and generally will choose songs that they like. Then you are listening and BAM./..you are right back to the times and dates when you remembered the song that you had forgotten about. Appreciate the listen and the kudos. Have a great night.....:-)

@jerry I am so happy that I have not ruined it for you....jerk....lol. This was a huge hit for BJ back in the 70s. If you listen to his original, he hits a high falsetto towards the end that these old pipes can't climb the ladder anymore.....lol. Glad you enjoyed it. Appreciate the listen and the humor as always....:-)

@joyceishere Thanks, Joyce. I had to change the melody somewhat to accommodate the lyrics not being sung in falsetto which BJ does towards the end of the song. I just can't hit those highs anymore....lol. Glad you enjoyed my trendition of this classic. Have a great night....:-)
