The story behind the song;
Leonard Cohen is the author and performer of the song "So Long, Marianne." It was made available in 1967 as part of his debut album Songs of Leonard Cohen. The song is about the breakup of Cohen's long-term relationship with Marianne Jensen, whom he had first met in Greece in 1960.
