The downside to Jimmy Buffett's musical lifestyle is the time he has to spend away from his family.

He wrote this song for his future wife, Jane, who he was missing while on tour.

When he sings the first line, "Headed out to San Francisco for the Labor Day weekend show," he's talking about a specific concert in 1973.

One of Buffett's more popular songs, this is one of "The Big 8" that he played at almost all of his concerts.

A bit of irony in this song is that Buffett is looking forward to Monday so he can be with the one he loves, but for most of his audience, Monday is the dreaded day when the weekend ends and they have to go back to work.

Until "Margaritaville" came along a few years later and peaked at #8, this was Buffett's highest-charting entry on the Hot 100.

Jane Slagsvol, a model and University of South Carolina student, was on spring break in Key West when she met Buffett in a phone booth outside of the Chart Room Bar in 1972.

The following year, a smitten Buffett wrote the song about her and, in 1977, they got married.

Jane also starred in the music video, which features the couple on a picnic outing.

Buffett didn't have a budget for the video so Jane went without pay and he used his real truck (which was later impounded and crushed at a junk yard) and boat in the clip.

"There wasn't really much need in scripting this," he said of the video. "This was where I lived, the people I lived with, and the girl who I wrote 'Come Monday' about."

Buffett met his second wife, Jane (née Slagsvol), then a student from the University of South Carolina, at the Chart Room bar while she was visiting Key West on spring break; she never went back to school.

They were married in 1977 in Aspen, where the Eagles played at the wedding.

They had two daughters: radio personality Savannah Buffett (born 1979) and filmmaker Sarah Delaney (born 1992), and an adopted son, Cameron Marley (born 1994).

They split in the early 1980s due to their partying lifestyle but reconciled in 1991 after she got sober.[32]

In May 2023, Buffett was hospitalized to "address some issues that needed immediate attention" and rescheduled tour dates.

In late August, he entered hospice care.

Buffett died on September 1, 2023, age 76, at his home in Sag Harbor, New York, due to complications from merkel-cell carcinoma, a rare and aggressive skin cancer, with which he had been diagnosed four years earlier.

He was surrounded by family, friends, music, and his dogs, according to a statement released through his website, and in his final days, Paul McCartney visited Buffett's house and performed for Buffett's family.

He was one of the richest musicians in the world.....worth over a billion dollars.
