Album Bitter Tears - Ballads Of The American Indian (1964), by Johnny Cash.
I knew of this song, years ago as it is a true karaoke version.

Jerry: Growing up in a small Okla. prairie town, many Native Americans were my friends. Not far away was the peaceful Cheyanne village where Gen. Custer slaughtered women, babies, old people and braves on a before dawn raid on a freezing Dec. morning. He ordered them all killed. Custer saved a teenaged girl to be his 'comfort' woman. I cherish our Native Americans...they’ve suffered enough. Mr. Hayes, a true hero, died from war traumas that caused his alcoholism.
