Much like Haggard's "Okie From Muskogee," this was a patriotic song written as an anti-anti war song during the Vietnam War.

This song was nominated in 1970 for CMA Single and Song of the Year.

The song lost in both categories, with Haggard's "Okie From Muskogee" beating it out for Single of the Year.

Cash: @onefortheroad I'll fight anyone says this isn't a great sing , a awesome sing Keith

Keith Wallin: @cash Hey, you guys! I served for 20 years in the USAF and my Dad 28 years before me. My family and friends were always conservative and we didn't have too much sympathy with the draft dodgers and hippies singing protest songs....:-)
