Inspired by real life 1899 shooting of Allen Britt by his girlfriend Frankie Baker...story was first adapted and titled Frankie Killed Allen by songwriter
BILL Dooley..became Frankie and Johnny in 1912
Covered by many singers..
P.S. Frankie argued in court that it was self defense and was acquitted...hummed.
