Original Version: The song was originally written and recorded in 1977 by English singer-songwriter Mick Jackson (no relation to the Jacksons). He originally wrote it with the hope of selling it to Stevie Wonder.
The "Battle of the Boogie": Both Mick Jackson and The Jacksons released their versions of the song within one day of each other in September 1978 in the UK, leading to both versions charting simultaneously.
The Jacksons' Release: It served as the lead single for their album Destiny (1978), marking their return to major chart success after moving to CBS/Epic Records.
