This is a 1934 Cole Porter song that a friend wanted me to sing. I'd never heard it before. It's from the musical 'Anything Goes' written for the musical about a man and a woman taking turns complimenting each other...this is all male lyrics.
It made the top five best songs in that year. "You're the Top" is known as one of Porter's greatest songs. I looked it up and read: He wrote this song while on a Cruz where he kept asking passengers for their thoughts on his new song. Taking their comments, he made some minor changes and ended with this unusual arrangement.
