"Silver Threads and Golden Needles" is a classic country and folk-pop song written by Dick Reynolds and Jack Rhodes.
The lyrics tell the story of someone rejecting a wealthy, emotionally distant partner, preferring true love over a lonely life filled with material wealth.
Rockabilly singer Wanda Jackson first recorded the track in 1956.
The UK folk-pop trio The Springfields (featuring Dusty Springfield) turned it into a hit in 1962.
Their version reached #20 on the US Billboard Hot 100, notably becoming the first single by a British group to enter the US Top 20 before the British Invasion.
Other Notable Covers:Linda Ronstadt released a standout country-rock rendition in 1973, which featured backing vocals from The Eagles.
Country legends Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette, and Loretta Lynn recorded a famed, traditional country cover for their 1993 collaborative album Honky Tonk Angels.
I changed the lyrics to reflect a male point of view….:-) Keith
