I been sitting here, an thinkin' an about some horses that I've known.
Some good ones, some bad ones and some I wouldn't even own.
Cause as you know a cowboy is a sure a total loss.
Unless he's got a partner and good an honest horse.
Well, while I'm remembering, There's one horse that come to mind
He just the best ol' cow-horse a man could hope to find.
He sure had plenty savvy and always knowed just what to do.
He helped to get the job done. He stick and see it through.
Now I called this horse, ol' droop ears, cause that's the way they was.
They hung down at an angle, like the old work-mules does.
He didn't have much conformation, I'll have to give 'im that.
When you adjusted the saddle,but, his gut made 'im look fat.
He had sort a U-neck but that didn't bother him none,
He got so he'd stop when there was ropin' to get done.
he was just a little goose rump, A bit of a cow-hog behind
I had him in my string a spell before I knew one eye was blind.
What happened to that one eye, I'm sure I never knew.
But he could see more cattle than most horses could with two
He could fine more slicked and brushed up cows and steers.
He had a way of telling you with them big droop ears.
When workin' in rough country where a slip would mean a fall
Why you could put your mind at ease and not worry none a t'all.
Just give 'em his head, let 'em use his might,
Let 'em use his savvy, you'll come out alright.
Like I said, he weren't the best made horse as far as looks might go
he wouldn't win no prizes at any live-stock show.
But where he missed on having looks, he made up by being smart.
I can't deny ol' droop ears, I know he was all heart.
Now I've come to this conclusion, that looks can sometimes hide
A true and honest statement, that's buried deep inside.
And this horse learned me a lesson, I've remembered all these years
There's a lot of brains can settle, between a pair of droopy ears.
