Old Blue

I was born on a farm, outside the city
When I was a boy, really thought it was a pity
That we didn't have a bigger family,
There was just my Maw and my Paw and me.
Then one day paw come home with a smile
I could tell he was hiding something all the while.

He opened up his coat and what a pleasant surprise
A tiny little dog with big brown eyes.

And everybody knew, he's a good dog too.

Old Blue went and he began to bark

Then come the day that Blue got sick,
I called to my paw to come right quick
Paw looked at Blue, an he said to me "Son,
I'm afraid ol' Blue's huntin' days are done.
That night Blue died, and he died so hard
The ground was shakin' in my back yard
I cried as I dug his grave with a spade
My tears fell on ol' Blue's grave,

Many years have passed since that mournful day
Then memory of Blue kinda fades away
But today in the winder of a shop downtown
I seen a little doggy and I turned around
I smiled at him and he smiled too
Kinda got me thinkin' of my old dog Blue
I bought dog and I brought him home
Here he is son, here's a dog all your own
There's one little favor, I'm gonna ask of you
When you get set to name him, would ya call him
