Good afternoon to everyone. This is one of my all time favorite songs by one of my favorite artist, Luther Vandross that I've always loved. Seen him in concert many years ago in Utah. We drove from Vegas to Utah, to see Luther Vandross in concert with 'The Morman Tabernacle Choir, singing my other favorite song; 'the Impossible Dream'. Oh what a great night we had. One that I shall never forget.

Born Luther Ronzoni Vandross, April 20, 1951, in New York, NY; died July 1, 2005, in Edison, NJ. Singer and songwriter. In the 1980s as R&B music turned from vocals to the slick styling of studio production that was rampant in the 1990s and the beginning of the 21st century. I sure do miss him. I also covered some of Celine Dion's cover as well.

The song is a tribute to his late father, and very poignant as it was one of Luther's last songs. His father died when he was young, and Luther's most poignant memory of his dad was him dancing in the house with his kids, which is where the idea concept of "Dance With My Father" came from.This won the Grammy awards for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Song Of The Year, and the album also won for Best R&B Album.

At the awards ceremony in 2004, Richard Marx felt bittersweet accepting the Song Of The Year award, as Vandross couldn't be there because of his illness. With help from Richard Marx, Luther Vandross wrote this song shortly after he suffered a stroke that eventually killed him two years later.

Despite the lack of promotion due in part to Vandross' hospitalization, "Dance with My Father" became one of the most requested songs at the time. During the 2003 Grammy Awards, "Dance with My Father" earned Vandross the Song of the Year and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance accolades.
