"Happy Holiday" was introduced by Bing Crosby and MarjorieReynolds (dubbed by Martha Mears) in the 1942 film Holiday Inn.

It is used in a scene when the Inn opens for the first time.

While it is commonly regarded as a Christmas song, in the film it is performed on NewYear's Eve, and expresses a wish for the listener to enjoy "happy holidays" throughout the entire year.

I am using the Andy Williams version which is a medley of "Happy Holiday" and "The Holiday Season."

The only parts of the original Happy Holiday song are the lyrics in the beginning:

The rest of the song is The Holiday Season which was written by Kay Thompson......one of Andy's mentors.

Andy became lifetime friends with Kay Thompson from their musical act " Kay Thompson and the Williams Brothers." At one time they were the highest paid nightclub act in the world.

In his memoir, Moon River and Me Andy revealed that Thompson and he became romantically involved ,while on tour, despite their
age difference (he was 19 and she was 38. The act broke up after 2 years in 1949 but, reunited for another highly successful tour from the Fall of 1951 through the Summer of 1953.
